My experience with Davidson Jewels (Ian) has been beyond the five stars allocated!

From the first encounter, Ian warmly introduced us to the world of creative jewellery design, taking the time to build a relationship, trust, and patiently supporting / respecting the process of decision making.

We know we made the right decision working with Ian. He “gets it” and made us feel so comfortable through the entire experience. I adore the rings he created and receive endless admiration from others. It is truly one-of-kind.

Ian was highly recommended by someone who has bought few of his pieces before. I was extremely impressed from the moment I walked in, Ian was absolutely lovely to talk to and work with. He even stayed open late to talk with me about the ring, my ideas and how we could incorporate my girlfriend's (now my fiancé) personality into the ring. His work is exceptional. My fiancé and everyone who's seen the rings he made for me have all commented on its beauty and craftsmanship. Truly ecstatic. I will be going to Ian for all of my jewelry in the future.

After looking for a wedding band that would work with my engagement ring, we decided to go the custom route and chose Davidson Jewels because Ian was helpful and reasonably priced. Last June, we went in to place orders for one custom platinum bad for myself and one titanium band for my fiance, for our wedding in October. On one occasion Ian needed to keep my engagement ring, so was good about contacting us quickly for a follow-up, but he's been challenging to get a hold of and we have needed to initiate follow-up appointments every other time. By September, we still didn't have any rings, and luckily we ended up needing to postpone our wedding otherwise I would be more frustrated. However, we haven't heard from him since early September. We have tried emailing and received no response, and his listed phone number is coming up as disconnected when you call. His hours aren't consistent and by appointment only, which also makes it difficult to just pop by.

I'm revising my initial review as we were finally able to get a hold of Ian and pick up our wedding bands.

Ultimately, we're happy with the wedding bands themselves, but weren't thrilled with the service and wouldn't recommend Ian and will not be using him again. We decided a 3 star review (changed from our initial 1 star review) would be fair as the quality of work was quite good, but it was frustrating that the response to our review (which we only left because we were at a loss for how to get a hold of him) was that we could email him.

It's an incredibly bizarre process to need to follow-up repeatedly as the customer and check if something is ready, especially for a product like custom jewelry. The onus shouldn't be on the customer to guess when something might be ready and have to follow-up, especially if there isn't an easy way to get in touch.

We got the sense that what we were asking for wasn't the most exciting commission, so it just wasn't a priority. Based on other reviews you might have better luck or a better experience if you're asking for something that's a little more complicated and intricate, and he can really have fun working on what you're asking for. Recognizing this, we're not actually sure if he'd even want this kind of work, but we have some other jewellery that needs some resizing and repair work that we likely would have asked Ian about, but will be going elsewhere for.
