Our experience could have definitely been better. We browsed the store and were interested in seeing multiple pieces of jewellery, however we were not helped initially or greeted because it was busy — that was understandable as the associates were taking their time with other clients. We were told to come back after half an hour, and we were fine with that, but when we did we were given a very half hearted experience, which was shocking especially since it was seemingly the manager — Indian for identification purposes — who was helping us. She didn’t greet us, or ask us to sit down for a consultation or was at all friendly — I chalked it up to her being overwhelmed until she kept on interrupting our service and picking out items from the display cases to greet other clients and ask them to sit down so she could help them. I found that to be a stark difference between that and how we were being treated which was quite coldly. I was hoping that she would take the time with us but right as she began to help us, another couple came in and she said “I can be right with you in a second, please sit down” which was really odd because I was hoping she would take her time with us or at least try to be as friendly was she was being with other couples. Up until I decided on two pieces — she treated us like we weren’t serious customers, had to flag her down multiple times as she just kept leaving — despite telling her that we knew which pieces we were interested in and we had to leave soon. Even when we did finalize the pieces, she very unceremoniously threw them into the boxes, despite them being made in such a way that you *can* present the pieces with a certain degree of propriety and standards. Lastly, she was not prepared to answer questions about any information surrounding the gemstones, the quality of the metal — and kept on telling us to “just look at the tag” which she actually cut off upon our purchase, so now we have no way of knowing the manufacturing and sourcing information of one of the pieces as it is not listed on the website. The cherry on top is that she left that a set that I was no longer interested in out on top of the glass and just walked off and told me to follow her. I had to bring it back to her and she was quite shocked that she had left it out, but if I had been someone without integrity I would have just left the store. Employees and managers like this cost People’s money and their reputation. If these are standard practices at Peoples’, consider me shocked when it says it’s Canada’s #1 jewellery store.
