I feel incredibly fortunate to have had Rick as my coach for the 10in10in10 Marathon Challenge - our goal was to run 10 marathons in 10 consecutive days across all 10 Canadian provinces, all in support of raising $1 million for children’s charities.
Given the scale of the event, the media attention, and the support of over a thousand donors, the pressure to succeed was immense. I knew I needed a highly personalized training plan from an experienced ultra-marathon coach, and I was lucky to have Vital Performance and Rick Canning recommended to me.
Over 16 months, Rick guided me through more than 6,300 km of training. His ability to strike the perfect balance between pushing me to my limits and protecting me from injury was exceptional. He monitored my progress closely, adjusted my plan when needed, and ensured I arrived at the start line healthy, strong, and mentally prepared.
Rick’s support went beyond just physical training—he helped me develop race strategies, contingency plans, and the mental resilience needed to take on such a demanding challenge. Thanks to his expert coaching, I was fully prepared, and the 10in10in10 could not have gone better.
If you're looking for an ultra-marathon coach who is knowledgeable, attentive, and truly invested in your success, I can’t recommend Rick highly enough.

Carla and her team have been incredible to work with. They approach individual fitness goals with a wholistic and pragmatic program design, often breaking physiological issues down to their basic root causes and building back up from there. Communication, planning, goal setting and support to help individuals achieve their fitness goals are always top of mind with Vital.

I've personally worked with Carla for over 10 years through recovery from a cycling accident, to planning for larger cycling events and now working towards personal fitness goals of remaining active and pushing myself while also aging. She spreads this same approach to her team and sets a great example for her team.

I have been working with Carla for almost 4 years after struggling with persistent swelling in one of my knees. After working with excellent physiotherapists at Coalition and religiously completing my exercises daily for months, they recommended seeking support from Carla. Carla meticulously studied and helped adjust movement patterns within my walking and running gate to resolve the swelling issues! Since then, Carla has helped me remain active and gain strength through recurring episodes of low-back pain. She’s a magician!

I have nothing but praise for both Carla and Nick. Their deep knowledge, strong desire to help clients, and willingness to think differently is second to none!

Vital has helped me take the next step with my running. I was trying to follow plans that I found on the internet or from friends and I was having troubles achieving my goals and just kept getting hurt. I needed someone to be able to ask questions to and help structure a custom training plan for me.
